He attended Boggs Academy graduating in 1972 and graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1976.

Coming from a line of educators, Baatin excelled in each field he was engaged in. One of his favorite sayings was “everything is one.”  By understanding mathematics, you can see the oneness in everything! This concept of oneness led to an exemplary career in music. A uniquely talented musician, Baatin was an outstanding vocalist and played various instruments as well. He was an accomplished entertainer and performed extensively in the USA and internationally in Canada, Germany, Amsterdam, Egypt, Jamaica, Bahamas, Mexico, and South Africa. He was an occasional member of rock and roll hall of fame legends Parliament-Funkadelic (the Original P version).

He played guitar, keyboards, saxophone, and flute and performed background vocals as well He worked closely with Otis Redding III the son of the late soul legend Otis Redding. He headlined regional festivals in the US and was featured in concerts with many superstars including Bobby “Blue” Bland, Robert Cray, Roy Ayers, Ronnie Laws, Dave Brubek and James Brown. His music can be described as the Funky Blues. He studied with master musicians in Macon GA including James Brown, Otis Redding, Bobby Womack and the Allman Brothers Band during the 70s armed with a degree in Sociology with studies in ethnomusicology.

His debut CD “Sunday Brunch”  received critical acclaim in numerous major publications from around the world including Ebony Magazine and “The Pittsburg Gazette”. Music from this CD has been used by American cable network TNT (Turner Network TV) in their NBA basketball playoff s program. His music was also used by Delta Airlines in various CNN-In-flight presentations. Sharing his love of music led Baatin to teach the craft. Over the last few years, he was an instructor at Victory Spot in Fayetteville, GA and conducted private lessons in his studio.

Although Baatin had passion for music, his greatest love was his service to Allah (God) and the Nation of Islam. Baatin served as the Student Minister of Muhammad Mosque #93 of Macon, Ga for 10yrs. He went on to later serve as the Student Southern Regional Prison Minister for another 10yrs. In 2012 the Nation of Islam began to study Dianetics under the direction of Minister Louis Farrakhan. Per that directive, Baatin’s latest endeavor involved the codification of Islam and Dianetics. He formed The Supreme Technology Workshop to facilitate studies to uncover the cause and effect of our very thoughts.

His love of Islam shows another aspect of such a versatile man and a life well lived. Baatin will be missed physically but he lives on through all who knew him. Baatin is survived by his wife of 27 years Belinda Muhammad, his sons Rashid Muhammad and Shaheed Muhammad as well as many relatives and friends.
